It is important to have an idea of where the rug will be placed before purchasing it.
What is the reason? There are many materials that rugs can be made from, depending on their use. Outdoor rugs, for instance, are made from more durable materials but will not be as flattering in bad weather. This is why outdoor rugs are more durable.
You probably already know that rugs do not cover the entire space, but only a portion of it. Rugs are easier to maintain and clean than carpets. Let’s now see where they can be found throughout your house.
Kitchen Rugs
You should not place a rug in the kitchen. Polypropylene is the best choice for kitchen rugs. It absorbs spills better and is easier to clean. Natural custom rugs with logo such as sisal and jute can also be used, but they can also be durable and easily cleaned.
Living Room Rugs
You want a durable, high-quality rug. Wool or natural rugs, such as sisal or jute, are the best.
Bedroom Rugs
This can be a tricky area because you want to both style it and have a durable rug.A fur or leather rug is an option. Be aware! Remember that the rug’s price can have a significant impact on its durability and quality.
Bathroom mats and rugs
A bathroom, especially one with kids, is an area where water can seep everywhere. For bathroom rugs, cotton or chenille is the best choice. Synthetic rugs are made from acrylic, polyester, rayon, etc
Kid Rugs
This is a very busy area, so cotton is the best option. They are also very easy to maintain and cost-effective.
Outdoor Rugs
Synthetic rugs are weatherproof and durable, so they’re a good choice when buying outdoor mats. You have many options for styling your home’s porch or entrance with synthetic rugs.
Runners (stairway and hallway) Rugs
You will need to decide if this is a high- or low-traffic area. You can make a good investment in wool if you are prepared to pay. Because it is easy to clean and lasts, polypropylene is the best option if you intend to place it in high-traffic areas.
Their Production Method
There are many ways to make rugs, but we will only be focusing on three basic production methods: machine woven or hand-woven.
Hand-Knotted: Everything is done by hand, as the name suggests. This is why they are so expensive. High-quality yarns can make them last many generations. They can be made of natural fibers, such as silk, wool, silk, and jute.
Hand Woven – Similar to hand-knotted. Also known as flatweave rugs. The most common fibers used for making them are wool and cotton. They are typically very thin and strong.
Machine Woven – machine-made rugs cost less than hand-made ones. You can also use synthetic fibers such as nylon, acrylic, polypropylene, and acrylic. However, they can be less durable depending on how the machine is made and what material it is made from.
The rug’s backside will help you distinguish the two. The knots on a hand-made rug should not be uniform. They may not be always the same size. Machine-made rugs will look almost perfect. Even though the knots aren’t knots!
Their Shape
It can be hard to decide the right rug shape! You can make your room appear smaller or larger by choosing the right shape. You should also consider the dimensions. This is something we’ll discuss later.
Square Rugs. This is my favorite shape to put in a room. If you place them in a square area, they will look fantastic paired with a square-shaped table. You won’t like them if they don’t look right.
Round rugs. You might think that these rugs are difficult to put in, but they are not. These will make your space more inviting and cozy. To make a smaller space feel bigger, you can use this shape and pair it with similar furniture.
